Welcome To The Goyen Foundation

Two years ago, I was an administrator at an independent school in Washington D.C. I spent my days counseling students, advising teachers, and talking to parents.

One year ago, I was working seven days a week, furiously organizing volunteers and virtual phonebanks and events for the final stretch of the Biden campaign in North Carolina.

Today, I’m writing my first blog entry for the Goyen Foundation. I’m still refining my elevator pitch about what I do, but my work, as I currently see it, is to amplify the voices of students with learning differences—and support the work of teachers and scientists doing the same.

We already have our first grant out the door (more on that later), so it felt like a good time to put together a website and start sharing our work.

Here’s what you can expect in this space (approximately 1-3 times a week):

  1. Reflections on Goyen’s mission, values, and vision.

  2. Questions and observations about the learning difference space that I’m wrestling with.

  3. Deep dives into projects we’re supporting.

  4. Musings about the connection between our work and social justice and equity.

  5. Profiles of other organizations and individuals that are offering innovative and exceptional support and services to students with learning differences.

  6. Guest posts from students with learning differences.

Thanks for reading!
